One of the first affixes to be protected by the ‘Rough Collie Breed Council’, Carramar, although originally starting with sable and white stock from the ‘Eden kennel’, will always be synonymous with blue merle breeding.
First registered in 1953, and active until the late 1960s Carramar Collies were in effect a joint affair between husband and wife Jim and Joyce Sargeant, the latter, having owned a successful Collie kennel during her years in Australia, contributed her considerable experience in all aspects of the canine world, although the affix was registered in the name of J Sargeant.
The kennel produced three very influential home bred dogs, all
based on ‘Westcarrs
lines’, in tricolour Carramar Midnight Raider, plus
the big winning blue merle Champions
Carramar Boy Blue and Carramar Blue Tweed, both of which were the ideal clear silvery
blue for which the kennel was justly famous. All three produced Challenge Certificate
winning offspring, including champions, not only for the home kennel but also for
the likes of ‘Bririch’, ‘Lowerpark’, and ‘Clickam’, in addition to being a major
influence in many other kennels of the period.
